Harding, an avid golfer who died two years earlier in San Francisco, the course runs along the shore of Lake Merced in the SW. corner of the city. It was designed by Willie Watson and Sam Whiting, also known for designing the Olympic Club Lake Course. Harding Park has been restored to past glory and has held several PGA Tour events including the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship, 2009 President’s Cup and the Champion’s Tour season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship in 2010 & 2011. Near the center of Pacifica is Sharp Park, a municipal golf course dating from 1932 that was designed by Alister Mackenzie (1870-1934), who was arguably the greatest golf course architect in the history of the game. This 6,300 yard, par-72, 18-hole course has minimal hills. The fairways are lined with trees, and sand traps and waterways make it a difficult course for beginners. For those who like a challenge, the 13th hole is 525 yards long, and includes a shot over water.
