TripAdvisor is the leading online travel review website, we have also included reviews from guests that have emailed us, as well as from Expedia and Travelocity. Our reviewers know it, and so will you after only one stay. Our Guests are Talking . . .Simple hotel a bargain in a great location. I've stayed at the San Remo Hotel a few times because it's inexpensive compared to other hotels in the city and is within walking distance of a lot of great restaurants and sights. If you're looking for luxury, this isn't the place for you. The bathrooms on each floor are shared and the rooms are bare-bones: no television, no phone, etc. But if you're planning on spending most of your time outside the room, it's a suitable place to sleep. If you're short on cash but want to spend a night in the city, this is your solution. The staff is helpful and visitors from all over the world often stay here, so you get to hear a lot of different languages in the hallways. Excellent value, fantastic location, wonderful staff. If you can cope with shared bathrooms and showers, This is a superior European style pensione. It is in a charming early 1900's hotel with abundant daylight and houseplants. We often meet Europeans staying here- they understand the small room, no phone/tv, concept. Who needs more if you are there to get out and see the city? The staff is incredibly attentive, there are people cleaning the "WC's" and showers through the day, and half the rooms do have personal sinks. You are 1 block from the Powell-Mason cable car (buy a pass!), 2 blocks from a Trader Joes and Safeway, and 4 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and the F street car to the embarcadero and downtown. All for under $100/ night! What is not to like about that? Left my heart in the San Remo.
You can't find a better place than the San Remo. Who cares that there is no TV, fridge, or microwave? At the end of a long day of exploring the city, it was all we could do to flop down in bed at night. We've stayed there twice. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it. The hotel even smells good - way better than the chemical clean smell. When I couldn't locate ...more [+]any shampoo, the very nice desk clerk went to his car and produced some brand new shampoo for me. Very nice! I did have a hard time finding Diet Pepsi in SF, even in the San Remo's Pepsi machine. Funny. We stayed during Halloween, and our very friendly desk clerk dressed up as some kind of super hero. Sorry to ramble, but the San Remo is the best place I have ever stayed at. Previous posters are right - you will end up paying more for a meal than you will for one night's lodging here. Take all of our advice, and book a room at the San Remo in San Francisco. You won't be disappointed. Quaint, old fashioned hotel -
San Francisco is a great place to visit and the San Remo was a great littoe place to stay in. The location was great, short walk to the peirs and dining. The hotel itself was quaint with the old fashioned individual bedrooms and plants climbing the banisters. The communal showers were clean with their own inbuilt heaters. The staff were polite but not overly friendly. Would also recommend the restaurant attached, lovely food and great service. Stay here and save a lot to spend on great dining! -
SF is a fantastic getaway weekend, as many know. When I met my wife, she always told me about her favorite little Inn in SF, the San Remo. She took me there and I, too, fell in love with this clean, quaint and fun hotel. If you are looking for normal hotel amenities, book someplace else for $150 more per night. If you are looking for an incredible neighborhood in an inn with historic aura, then stay at San Remo. You will have tons of money left over to spend on attractions and dining. In fact, every dinner we had was more than what we paid for our room. And don't let common baths scare you...they are spotless at all times and showers are private. This was the first place I have ever stayed with common facilities and I would not hesitate in the least to stay again and again. SAN FRANCISCO'S PENSIONE - A Poetic Tribute -
Visitors arrived with International flaire, Great Stay at San Remo -
My family was in San Francisco for The Woodstock 40th Anniversary Westfest Show and we found the San Remo to a be an enchanting spot that we stayed in for a week. It was awesome. The staff was very kind and we were really happy to find this spot. I felt like I was at home. Safe, Clean, cozy, and beautiful. There are awesome plants and trees that intertwine throughout the rooms and halls. You should totally check this spot out. Great showers, warm towels. A very attentive staff. A real bonus. Even a country girl can feel safe in the big city at the San Remo -
I was very pleased with my stay at the San Remo. It is clean, and very affordable. I felt very safe there. The location is great for walking to Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown and of course drinking coffee on Columbus Avenue in the morning. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I will definitely stay there again. On business I usually stay in chain hotels, near an airport. It was so nice to stay in a unique hotel like the San Remo on this trip. Atmospheric, romantic and nostaglic bargain hotel -

I'm a SF local and have all my family stay at the San Remo when they come to visit me (as do many other locals). There's just no question about where to stay - you WILL NOT FIND A BETTER VALUE in San Francisco. (1) Great location - 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf (Alcatraz, Pier 39, seafood etc.), 2 blocks from all the great Italian restaurants & night life in North Beach; (2) Amazing price - let's see, rooms for $75 / night in San Francisco? Plus, they're always running some type of internet special on their website. (3) The hotel itself is a fully restored Victorian building from 1906, spotlessly clean, and the staff will pretty much do anything you need....free WiFi for when my dad stays. Nothing much else to say here - you're getting ripped off if you stay anywhere else! |
